Famous Punjabji singer Daler Mehndi has been sentenced for two years imprisonment by the Patiala court in a 2003 trafficking case.The singer was responsible for illegally helping people immigrate by making them part of his troupe and charged them a hefty 'passage' money in return. The singer and his brother were held responsible for the same after a complaint filed by a one Bakshish Singh.

In 2006 the Patiala police filed a discharge petition stating the singer as innocent but the court found the evidence sufficient for the singer to be convicted.
