For a while now, it has been a trend to remake Southern blockbuster films into Bollywood. Earlier, this fascination was for Hollywood cinema; however, our regional cinemas are giving tough competition to everyone around the world. In the last couple of years, Marathi Cinema has also generated quite a few interesting films that can be remade into Bollywood, so that the reach of these films can be amplified. Take a look at few such films that impressed us thoroughly.
This film was a huge hit in Marathi Cinema itself. The story of the film is based on the love life of Parshya and Archana, who belong to different castes. Their love, although strong, had to face many problems.
This quirky comedy film is as realistic as it gets. Produced by Priyanka Chopra, this film talks about an Indian family, who is dealing with the illness of their oldest member… In the truest sense, this film explored the intentions each family member has, while they have to deal with the illness and subsequent demise of their loved one. In fact, the film is so good that it even received a few National Awards this year.
3. Harishchandrachi Factory
This film talks about the struggle of Dadsaheb Phalke, in making the first feature film in India, called Raja Harishchandra. In fact, the film is so good that it was nominated for the Academy Awards too. Wouldn’t we all be interested in knowing this story, which resulted in Bollywood as we know it today?
Based on a novel with the same name, this story talks about the trials and tribulations of an artist, who has to go against the society to achieve his dream… Right from becoming a eunuch for the play, to being harassed by so-called ‘societal people’, political pressure, staying away from his family and not receiving their support, the story enthrals its audiences with the pain in the life of this artist. However, even with all this, he manages to achieve his goals.
This story revolves around a retired stage actor who is not able to move on from his life in the theatre. The misery that one suffers when they aren’t doing what they are best at, is what is shown in the film. Alternatively, how children treat their own parents is also one of the messages that the film departs. It is definitely a film that the world should know about.
6. Balak Palak
Produced by Riteish Deshmukh, this film talks about the much needed sex education among children at a ripe age. In a country with limitless population, and sexual violence among children, I think it is high time that this topic reaches the masses through a medium suited for all.
