Tom Hardy and Ridley Scott are pairing up for a Navy Seal drama, financed by online streaming giant Netflix. According to media reports, War Party will star the Mad Max: Fury Road actor, with Scott’s company, Scott Free Productions, handling production.
But it’s not the first time Scott and Hardy have worked together. Scott Free produced the actor’s critically praised BBC period drama Taboo, which was recently commissioned for a second series. Hardy also starred in Ridley Scott’s 2001 war movie Black Hawk Down. Plot details are not yet revealed but Hardy is reportedly playing a decorated US Navy Seal in the movie that is based on real-life events. Andrew Dominik, best known for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford joins the project as co-writer with Harrison Query and director. Dominik made his debut with gritty prison drama Chopper which starred Eric Bana in the lead. After the Assassination of Jesse James, he reteamed with Pitt for the crime movie Killing Them Softly.
Hardy’s next is another war movie, Dunkirk directed by Christopher Nolan, which is set to open this July. Netflix has a number of big projects lined up, including Brad Pitt starrer War Machine, a star-studded satire featuring the actor as a fictional four-star general running the war in Afghanistan.
